Jen is the author and creator behind a brilliantly inappropriate collection of adult humour books that look suspiciously like children’s books… but absolutely aren’t! Her books have grown into a collection designed to make adults laugh, so when she approached us about writing a book for The Robin Cancer Trust, we absolutely couldn’t decline. As a charity that uses humour to break down stigma and start conversations around testicular cancer, it seemed like the perfect partnership!

Introducing The Missing Ball

Launching this September, The Missing Ball uses Jen’s trademark humour to tackle the embarrassment that can stop men talking about their testicles and checking themselves for potential signs of cancer.

Testicular cancer most commonly affects younger men, with the average age at diagnosis in the early 30s, making the message particularly relevant to Jen’s audience.

Jen said:

“Men will listen to a joke long before they'll read a leaflet. I write books that make people laugh, and if that laugh is what finally gets a bloke to check himself, then the book has done something far bigger than I ever set out to do. I want people to close it grinning and then actually have a check.”

Jen and her husband Ant chose to support The Robin Cancer Trust after discovering our own bold and often humorous approach to raising awareness of testicular cancer.

Our Founder and CEO, Toby Freeman, said:

“Testicular cancer is a serious subject, but that doesn’t mean we always have to talk about it in a serious way. Humour can reach people when sometimes a traditional health message can’t, especially for a younger audience, and if this book gets even one bloke to check himself or have a conversation he might otherwise have avoided, that’s incredible!”
